Bus Service Changes
in August 2021 across Tayside

© Tails Prower 2040

August sees many changes as a result of competitive tendering in Dundee (and tidying up the Angus ones from July). In addition many services are changing in time for schools reopening, with New Madras College in St Andrews replacing both the current South Steet and Kilrymont Annex sites. MOST changes are minor, but there are a few more substantial changes. This list is in service number but check carefully as many dates are different.

This is Version 1 of the list as at the evening of Thursday 12th August 2021

Stay Safe (and no it doesn’t mean not getting mugged lol)

Xplore Dundee 99X (was 198/199) Dundee Foundry Lane at Xplore Dundee garage –  Leuchars – Craigtoun Park or Madras College)

  • These services were initially registered in 2014 when Xplore Dundee won the Fife School journeys for Madras College. Rather than every bus go back to Dundee (and risk double deckers may be being stuck with changeable wind on the Tay Road Bridge), it was decided they would park at Craigtoun Country Park coach park. The single deck working for Greyfriars School GF1 (unchanged) would then continue to Craigtoun Park where 8 Madras College drivers would park the buses up, and travel passenger back to Dundee, and reverse in the afternoon.
  • In addition the MD3 Gauldry bus would return direct from St Andrews to Dundee Foundry Lane as 198 (this was a driver training working but is no longer the case)
  • As a result of Madras College moving to new premises there is no longer a need to park buses at Craigtoun, as the new one has a 17-stnace bus park, where buses can be kept at the new school building (like Moffat& Williamson do with Bell Baxter  High School) .
  • With that I mind these two journeys will both show 99X with one starting from Greyfriars School (Ex GF1) while the other will start from New Madras College (ex one of the MD series). Check timetables as Madras hours changing considerably.

Stagecoach Strathtay Dundee City Service 202 (Kirkton – Kingsway West Retail Park – The Glens – Kinpurnie Place – Infirmary Brae – City Centre) from Monday 16th August 2021

  • Service now operated by Moffat & Williamson following Dundee City Council tendering
  • Between Baldovan Road and Fredrick Street additionally via Loftus Street/Loftus Place (presumably accessing Downfield Terminus)
  • However on the debit site, he service is withdrawn from the Kinpurnie Place/Campbell Street ad Law Crescent areas, to essentially provide another bus to Kilberry Street – which is also covered by 204 – and part of Byron Street (covered by commercial Service 2). This change actually sees the end oft the area where the service started (with The Glens added to the plans before starting after the 13/14 withdrawing in 2000). This may be to provide a bigger bus, but time will tell. Passengers can bord the bus on Lawside Road or Kilberry Street.
  • Two extra journeys added to the timetable-    08.40 from Ward Road and 16.10 from Kirkton, and these run every day of the week.

  • Service still operated by Moffat & Williamson following Dundee City Council tendering
  • The route is little changed apart from using Forfar Road and Clepington Road EE (via Mayfield instead of the bottom end of Pitkerro Road). Despite initial studies and discussions (and the introduction of commercial services to Linlathen and Barns of Claverhouse) the rest of the route continues, still the only service in Mill O’ Mains (Apart from 20/21/33 via footbridge on Forfar Road) and Mid Craigie.
  • Timetable starts later (08.45 from Victoria Road not 07.25 from Commercial Street) and finishes earlier (16.35 not 18.28). Most times are a few minutes different but buses leave Claverhouse 7 minutes later and Commercial Steet 10 minutes later. Check new timetable for details.
