Dundee Public Holiday Services
On the Dundee Public Holidays, a normal weekday (School Day or School Holiday, depending on the school calendar) service will now run. The services will only change over Christmas & New Year. A reduced Sunday service will run on Boxing Day and 2nd January, between approx. 07.30 and 20.00 hours. More detailed information on Christmas and New Year services will be ready nearer the time. (This does not affect Stagecoach Strathtay Service 73, which will continue to run to a Saturday timetable on these dates).
Services 1A/1B – City Centre – Coldside – The Stack – St Mary’s
- Service 1B will be diverted between St John’s High School and the Hilltown, running via Alpin Road, Byron Street, Harcourt Street, rejoining the 1B route at Strathmartine Road. This change increases the service along Byron Street and Alpin Road to every 20 minutes (daytime), 60 minutes (evenings) and 40 minutes (Sunday daytimes). This will replace Service 27, which is withdrawn, and reintroduces buses along Harcourt Street.
- From St Marys (Mon-Fri), there will be changes to early morning services, to give a better spread of departures. The first three from St Mary’s (Monday-Friday) will be at 05.25 (1A unchanged), 05.55 (1B was 06.20), 06.25 (1A was 06.30), with services after 06.55 unchanged in times (but 1B will serve Alpin Road and Byron Street – see above). Afternoon bus services from St Mary’s follow the current times until 16.25 from St Mary’s. From this point, all buses are five minutes later throughout until the 18.40 1A (now 18.45), then an extra 1A operates at 18.52. After 19.00, timetables are the same as now until 23.05 (1A), then a new extra 23.35 bus (Service 1B).
- From the City Centre (Mon-Fri), there is an improved early morning service towards St Mary’s. From Courthouse Square at 04.55 (1A), 05.25 (1B), 05.50 (1A), 25 (1B), 06.35 (1A), 06.40 (1B) and 06.45 (1A) when the service will run to the existing times until 18.40. The 19.00 now runs at 19.05, then existing times until 23.05.
- Saturdays – towards St Mary’s, only changes will be the 19.00 from City Centre running at 19.05 (as per weekdays). Towards the City Centre, a much improved service runs in the early morning, replacing the current 20-30 minute service. There will now be buses at 07.05 (1A), 07.20 (1B), 07.35 (1A), 07.50 (1B), 08.05 (1A), 08.20 (1B), 08.35 (1A), 08.50 (1B), 09.05 (1A), 09.15 (1B), 09.25 (1A), 09.40 (1A), 09.50 (1A) until 16.25 from St Mary’s. From this point, all buses are five minutes later throughout until the 18.40 1A (now 18.45), then an extra 1A operates at 18.52.
- No major changes on Sundays, but an extra 1B from St Mary’s to City Centre at 23.35 (matching the Monday-Friday and Saturday service).
NEW SERVICE 4 (Dryburgh – Lochee – Kilberry Street – Gardner Street – Scott Street – City Centre)
- New service, replacing parts of former Service 23 and 27. This will reintroduce daytime bus services to and from Scott Street and Gardner Street/Rankine Street areas.
- These changes will provide an hourly service to these areas, starting from Whitehall Street at 08.58 until 13.58 Monday to Friday, with an extra bus on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 14.58.
- Towards the City Centre, Monday to Friday, buses run from Dryburgh 09.26 and hourly until 13.26, calling at Foggyley Gardens 4 minutes later, Lochee Bank Street 9 minutes later, Kilberry Street 14 minutes later, Scott Street 22 minutes later, to arrive in the City Centre (Whitehall Street W1) about 27 minutes later.
- Saturdays – a similar service operates, albeit with buses running later (last bus 15.58 from City Centre, 16.26 from Dryburgh).
- Additional buses to Dryburgh are provided by Stagecoach Service 57 and 59 ((these are being improved in November – see Stagecoach changes page). Pentland Avenue by Service 17. In the evenings and on Sundays, Dryburgh is also served by the Outer Circle.
Service 5 (Ninewells Hospital – Perth Road – City Centre – Strathern Road – Balgillo)
Services 9, 9A, 9C, 10, 10A (Outer Circle)

- Service 5 will once again serve Tom McDonald Avenue, instead of Glamis Road and Dickson Avenue. This change standardises the route in this area on all the 5 and Outer Circle journeys, which are interworked.
- Dickson Avenue and Glamis Road remain served by Services 22/22A/22B, and Stagecoach 73/73A/73B, 204 and X7/X8.
- Evening and Sunday Service 9A/10A now serve Dundee Technology Park, as per the daytime service. This will mean this area is covered by all Outer Circle Service 9, 9A, 9C, 10, 10A buses. Gowrie Park and Spey Drive remain covered by Service 29.
- A revised spread of morning peak buses between City Centre and Gardyne Campus, with three extra journeys on college days (instead of one as now).
- Evening “short” journeys on 9A/10A running evenings between Ninewells and/or City Centre and Balgillo will extend to/from the under-refurbishment Sainsbury’s at Claypotts.
- While service levels remain unchanged, please check the new timetables carefully.
Service 14 (The Stack – Kings Cross Road – Kingsway West Retail Park – Clepington Road – Mid Craigie – Asda Milton – Douglas)
- Service withdrawn in it’s current format.
- Kingsway West Retail Park will be served by Service 202 by Stagecoach (City Centre – Law – The Glens – Kirkton). This can also be accessed by a short walk along Clepington Road to the bus stops on Kings Cross Road near B&Q. This is also served by The Friendly Bus.
- The Stack and Kings Cross Road are still served by the 1A/1B and 9/10 (Outer Circle).
- Clepington Road is mostly unserved, but there are frequent services in Fairmuir (Service 1A/1B at back of Kings Cross Hospital, Service 22 at side), Clepington Road (Service 18 and AS3 – see below re later), Pitkerro Road, Longtown Road and Asda Milton (Service 15/17), and Douglas (Services 28/29, 88 and Outer Circle).
- Additional links over parts of this route are provided by School Service 14S, which continues unchanged.
- Links between The Stack and Douglas are possible on the 9/10 Outer Circle, or by using 28/29 from the bus stops in Lochee (Bank Street).
- Travelling to Asda Milton from the Fairmuir or Stobsmuir (Swannie Ponds) area is possible on Asda Free Bus Service AS3 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The bus starts from Asda Milton 10.45, 11.45, 12.45, then Stobswell, Hilltown (Kinghorne Road) ten minutes after Asda time, Bruce Street, Byron Street, Lawton Road (twelve minutes after Asda), then Caird Avenue (thirteen minutes after Asda), Barnes Avenue, Woodside (21 minutes after Asda), Mains Drive, Mains Loan, Clepington Road, to arrive at Asda Milton of Craigie at 10.41, 11.42, 12.41. This service is Hail & Ride on streets without bus stops, including where they have been removed.
- Some slight changes to services in the Monday – Friday morning peak periods; 07.21 from Ninewells Hospital now runs at 07.18, and an additional bus will run from High Street to Downfield at 07.55.
- In the afternoons on Monday – Friday, journeys between 13.59 and 18.00 from Ninewells Hospital will all have running time changes, with some stops being served 1-2 minutes later, with Craigowl terminal reached 1 minute later than now on most journeys.
- From Craigowl, there will also be running time changes of a few minutes to journeys presently from Craigowl (Monday – Friday) between 09.02 and 17.50. Off peak buses will vary by a minute, with up to 3 minutes in the evening peak.
- All 22’s will run end-to-end, with the journey that was starting/ending at Downfield being extended to Craigowl View.
- 53 (Monday – Friday) from Ninewells Hospital and 17.56 (Monday – Friday) will serve the Whitehall Theatre.
- Late night Service 22 at 23.10 from Ninewells Hospital to Craigowl View will now run as a 22A, running as far as Downfield, then Strathmartine Hospital. On the return leg, Bridgefoot and Craigowl View are served. This change applies seven nights a week.
- Saturday sees the 06.00 High Street – Craigowl journey run three minutes earlier, and an extra minute added to some of the morning journeys towards Craigowl. Similarly, morning journeys are up to a few minute different towards Ninewells, with one extra minute of running time in the afternoons.
- Sunday daytime also sees one extra minute of running time towards Craigowl.
- While service levels remain unchanged, please check the new timetables carefully.
- New service replacing the former Service 23/23A/23B between City Centre and Woodside/Kirkton.
- Service diverts to serve Stirling Park and Hill Street, replacing Service 27 in these areas. The service will also extend to/from Downfield.
- Service will run a little earlier and later than the present services, to a constant hourly service. There are still gaps in the timetable at school times, in the afternoon this will vary with the days.
- Buses from Downfield (Monday – Friday) will run 07.23, 08.43, and every hour until 13.43, then 14.43 (School Holidays and Mondays/Tuesdays/Wednesdays School Days), 16.23 (School Holidays and Thursdays/Fridays School Days), 17.23, then 18.23. Buses will then leave Kirkton four minutes later, Woodside Terrace ten minutes later, Stirling Park 17 minutes later, Princes Street Surgery 25 minutes later. On Saturdays, buses leave Downfield every hour from 08.23 to 18.23, with similar times at subsequent points.
- Return buses will leave Commercial Street, outside the Keiller Centre, at 06.56, 08.16 (School Holidays Only), 09.16 and every hour until 13.16, then 14.16 (Mondays Tuesdays and Wednesdays School Days), 14.16 (School Holidays), 14.16 (Thursdays and Fridays School Days, as far as Kirkton Asda only), 15.16 (School Holidays as far as Kirkton Asda), 15.16 (Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays School Days as far as St Paul’s Academy), 15.53 (Thursdays and Fridays School Days, and all School Holidays), then 16.53, with the last bus at 17.53.
- All buses on this route will run end-to-end, unless otherwise stated.
Services 23, 23A, 23B (St Mary’s – Dryburgh – West End – City Centre – Hilltown – Provost Road – Woodside – Barnes Avenue – Gillburn Road – Kirkton, Asda)
- Service withdrawn in it’s current format.
- The section between City Centre and Kirkton Asda is replaced on a slightly improved basis (and serving Stirling Park and Princes Street) by the “new” Service 23 mentioned above.
- Section in St Mary’s withdrawn without direct replacement, although Services 1A/1B provide services from these areas to the City Centre, and the 9/10 Outer Circle provides links to the West End.
- Section from Dryburgh and City Centre replaced by a new Service 4, although these additionally serve Kilberry Street (replacing Service 27), Gardner Street, and additionally using Scott Street instead of Pentland Avenue (reintroducing service in both of these areas). Additional buses to Dryburgh are provided by Stagecoach Service 57 and 59 (these are being improved in November – see Stagecoach changes page).
Service 27 (Ardler Village – Kingsway West Retail Park – Alpin Road – Kilberry Street – Byron Street – Stirling Park – Hilltown – City Centre – Blackscroft Street – Arbroath Road – Douglas)
- Service withdrawn in it’s current format.
- Ardler Village is also served by the Service 9/10 Outer Circle. A quicker journey into the town can be had by simply changing to the 1A/1B at The Stack, where the same bus shelter is used by every service.
- St Mary’s and Kings Cross Road are still served by the 1A/1B and 9/10 (Outer Circle).
- Kingsway West Retail Park will be served by Service 202 by Stagecoach (City Centre – Law – The Glens – Kirkton). This can also be accessed by a short walk along Clepington Road to the bus stops on Kings Cross Road near B&Q. This is also served by the Good To Go Bus.
- Alpin Road and Byron Street will now be served by Service 1B on an improved frequency to now.
- Kilberry Street will now be served by new Service 4.
- Stirling Park and the Hilltown will now be served by the new Service 23.
- Blackscroft/Lower Princes Street area is still served on a very frequent basis by Services 5, 9, 10, and also Stagecoach Service 73/73A/73B, 75, and TeeJay Travel Services 78A-79C.
- Arbroath Road remains served by Services 28, 29, and Stagecoach Service 39, 73, and 73A.
- Douglas remains served by Services 28, 29, Outer Circle 9/10, and Moffat & Williamson Service 88.
- The section of Balunie Drive (between Balmoral Avenue and Ballindean Road) will only be served by Service 88 of Moffat & Williamson.
- Evening journeys on Service 29 will no longer serve Dundee Technology Park in the evenings. Instead, the 9A/10A Outer Circle will operate this way.
- No other changes to the timetable.
